You've succeeded. Now what? There are stories of climbers who have prepared their entire lives to reach the top of Mount Everest, only to climb down into the darkest depression of their lives. Regardless of the victory, post-goal coping can be tough. This weekend I experienced some post-success blues of my own. Closing an incredible 6 week run of my lifelong dream stage production of JCS has unexpectedly brought me from BLISS to BLAH. Once the exhilaration of crossing that finish line has been experienced, everything else just feels mediocre in comparison. The REAL challenge isn't always REACHING the peak... it's dealing with the post-peak gloom. Depression and the Super-Successful It … [Read more...]
How to Build Something from Nothing
Got nothin'? Build something ANYWAY. If you have an idea that lifts you up-- the worst thing you can do is HESITATE. Some of the most successful people in the world started with nothing but an idea. It wasn't the IDEA that was valuable... as much as the passion behind the idea. Just start to take action ...on anything. If your passion is potent, it's all you need to acquire everything else. Research. Raise funds. Seek mentor-ship. Ask questions. Write down ideas. Create a game plan. ACT NOW while you are still excited about your idea.... and move as far FORWARD as you can before the fear creeps in and you begin to talk yourself out of it. Acknowledge the fear and do it … [Read more...]
Date Night for Parents – No Babysitter Required!
Dating is cheaper than couples counseling - not to mention divorce. Nearly ten years ago my husband and I decided to trade in our love of performing on the stage together for our desire to start a family. Onstage and off, we were partners. We coached each other through auditions, ran lines with each other, and enjoyed many curtain calls together--- side by side. However, as much as we loved performing together, we eventually became burnt out and jumped into a new production: Partners in PARENTING. Parenting allowed us to fall in love all over again in a different partnership capacity. We enjoyed watching each other transition into caretakers, nurturers, providers and leaders. Whether … [Read more...]
The Show Must Go On
Life is UNSCRIPTED... ...and often, so is live theatre. This week, just after a successful opening of Jesus Christ Superstar, the cast was informed of an unexpected circumstance that would result in a complete overhaul of our already fully rehearsed stage production. Suddenly our sold out performances were postponed and we were back in rehearsals unfuuing the snafu. I was reminded this week that not only is live theatre unpredictable, it’s a metaphor for...well, EVERYTHING. Theatre, like life is UNPREDICTABLE. (Perhaps that is why immensely dramatic people tend to gravitate to the stage!) In all my years on the stage, I can't recall a single stage production that didn't bring about a … [Read more...]
The Summer of “Mom” (and the path to spiritual enlightenment!)
Confessions of a Rock Opera Nut This past weekend my husband and I opened our local repertory theatre’s production of Jesus Christ Superstar, an absolute dream come true for both of us. When we first got the call that BOTH of us had been cast-- (leaving our childcare situation in a bit of a pickle)--- we decided that it would be better to beg for forgiveness rather than to ask for permission to bring the kids with us to every rehearsal. What we feared might be disastrous and chaotic ended up being a delightful and enlightening experience for everyone. This was just the beginning of the pleasantly surprising lessons awaiting us this summer. 8 Things I Learned as a "Superstar" Mom 1. … [Read more...]

Healthy Happy Hormones!
The Blame Game When we aren't feeling our best, it's easy to go down the list of "undesirable" conditions that are out of our control. Mercury in retrograde. The weather. A change in barometric pressure. Hormones. Hormones!!! Do you still blame your hormones for those days that you are feeling "off"? Or worse--- sequester yourself to confinement? All I have to do is check the calendar to be reminded that I was feeling exactly the same way approximately 28 days earlier. Curses! Foiled again. and again... and again... You might have been warned by older friends and family members that it would only get worse as the years rolled by...but ...what if it doesn't have to be that … [Read more...]

Placing your Products on the Shelves
The further the journey, the more you will enjoy the ride. Its very easy for us to look at what we don't have. Its even easier for us to take a look at what everyone else has - but if you are looking for solutions, that is not the way to go about it. I am constantly looking to align myself with people who are real go-getters. I am most inspired by those that possess a real human spirit and tenacity for life. These are the people who I want to learn from, the ones who overcame a real struggle or unexpected curve ball thrown at them by life itself. The ones who never saw their lack of support or funding or less than desirable circumstances as an excuse to give up. These are the … [Read more...]
Small Budgets for Small Business and Podcasting Platforms
You've got the brand and the product...but how are you transmitting your message? Thanks to internet media, anything is possible. The truth is there are a million and one ways to cultivate your campaign and none of them should be overlooked as a possibility. We can start by exploring one of the hottest new trends that I happen to know a lot about: Being the host of your own radio show. On this show, I'll be inviting my boss, John Martin (or as I like to call him "Papa Togi") the owner of Toginet Radio, to talk about all you ever wanted to know about hosting your own talk radio hour. I will also be sharing with you some things that I've learned over the last 55 episodes that have … [Read more...]
